Guwahati Police nabbed a motorcycle-bound youth in Maligaon for speeding near Assam Chief Minister’s convoy on Sunday.

The youth was arrested and taken to the Jalukbari Traffic Police Station before being released after he paid a fine of Rs 2,000 for violating traffic rules.

The 23-year-old offender was identified as Narayan Sarkar, a resident of Guwahati’s Fatasil area. The youth was travelling from the direction of Adabari when he was flagged down moments before the CM’s convoy was to cross Maligaon, according to Jalukbari ACP Bhargav Sanjivan Goswami.

Under Section 179(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act (for wilfully disobeying a lawfully given direction), he was fined Rs 2,000.

Sunil Das, Traffic In-Charge at Jalukbari Police Station, informed G Plus that the youth was driving with a Learner’s License. He also pretended to be a student, according to Das, who added that police were later able to confirm that the youth had dropped out after completing his Higher Secondary.
