The world’s largest statue of Bir Lachit Barphukan, a 125-foot statue, is expected to be ready and inaugurated by January 2024. The statue is being built in Jorhat, Assam, and is estimated to cost ₹120 crore.

A museum on Ahom history is also planned to be set up along with the statue. The museum will showcase the history and culture of the Ahom dynasty, which ruled Assam from the 13th to the 18th centuries.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the construction site on July 10 to check on the progress of the project. He said that the statue is a “tribute to the bravery and sacrifice” of Bir Lachit Barphukan, who is considered a national hero in Assam.

A total of 50 bigha land is being utilized for the construction of the entire project. The statue is expected to attract tourists from all over the world and boost tourism in Assam.
