Unauthorized bus stops atop Guwahati’s flyovers have been prohibited by the Kamrup Metro District Administration. Furthermore, the Administration has ordered the strict demarcation of bus stoppages in order to reduce regular traffic congestion caused by unregulated buses in the city.

The Kamrup (M) Administration held a meeting on March 2 with representatives from the Deluxe Bus Association, Mini Bus Association, Guwahati Metro Association, National Highway Authority, Guwahati Municipal Corporation, District Transport Office, Guwahati Traffic, and other relevant departments.

Pallav Gopal Jha, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kamrup (M), has issued an order to the GMC, PWD, and the Transport Department for the immediate demarcation of 60 bus stoppages in Guwahati with proper signage. Furthermore, the Guwahati Traffic Police have been directed to take strict action against buses that stop atop flyovers to pick up passengers.

The DC also stated that for any type of traffic violation committed by buses, including stopping at an undesignated bus stoppage, action will be taken against the bus driver rather than the bus owner.
