On Thursday, two Ukrainian nationals were apprehended from a train in Assam’s Karimganj district’s Badarpur station.

Trishchynskyi Volodymyr, 39, and Nazari Vozniuk, 21, are the two Ukrainian nationals who were arrested. They were on their way to New Delhi from Agartala, Tripura, without any valid documentation, such as a passport or visa.

The two were detained from the Tripura Sundari Express (train number – 14619) at Badarpur railway station, some 30 kilometres from Silchar, at around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to a senior official at the Badarpur government railway police station.

According to reports, RPF and GRP officers patrolling at Badarpur railway station became suspicious of the two Ukrainians’ body language and apprehended them.

During interrogation, the detainees admitted that they had arrived in India as tourists in February and had visited places such as New Delhi and Kolkata before arriving in Tripura.

Padmanabh Baruah, the superintendent of police in Karimganj, stated on Friday morning that the two Ukrainians were being investigated.

Baruah said, “The detained Ukrainians have told us that their passports and visa were stolen. We are trying to verify this by communicating with the Ukraine embassy or in some other way.”
