Assam glows with the announcement of the Padma awards, as two Assamese find their names among the Padma Shri honorees.
The Government of India has selected Shakuntala Choudhury and Dhaneshwar Engti for the Padma Shri Awards 2022 in recognition of their great contributions in their domains.
Shakuntala Devi, a 102-year-old social worker from Assam, is a well-known figure in the state. She has worked as a supervisor at the Kasturba Ashram in Guwahati’s Ulubari district and has received numerous major national and international awards.
Dhaneswar Engti, who received the award in the area of Education and Literature, has made a significant contribution to Karbi literature and music. His contributions may be found in English and Assamese literature, among other languages.
