A horrific accident on the national highway 15 in the Biswanath district of Assam killed at least five members of a Bihu husori group.

On late Saturday night, the incident took place at Tokobari, under the jurisdiction of the Helem Police Station.

A Bihu group of roughly 20 boys and girls, the majority of whom were teens from North Karibeel in Kosarigaon village, had gone to Rangajan in Gohpur to play Husori.

When the accident happened, they were returning late at night. The vehicle’s driver was inebriated and lost control of the vehicle while manoeuvring a sharp bend, causing it to overturn.

The group’s five members were killed on the spot: two boys and three girls.

The following people have been recognised as the deceased: Radhika Daimary, Buddhimoti Boro, Bornali Boro, Sanjay Basumatary and Kalimon Basumatary.

The driver, on the other hand, was able to jump out of the vehicle after it turned upside down.

Meanwhile, the driver surrendered before the Amguri police station on Monday.

According to reports, the driver, Abhijit Gogoi, was allegedly drunk when he operated the four-wheeler vehicle.
