A Sessions Court in Kokrajhar, Assam, sentenced three persons to death on Friday for the rape and murder of two minor girls last year.

Farizul Rahman, Najibul Ali Sheik, and Muzamil Sheik were found guilty in the case, on Wednesday, April 6.

The accused were apprehended on June 14, 2021.

“Hon. Sessions Court, Kokrajhar awarded death sentence to accused Muzamil, Najibul & Farizul in the gruesome case of rape & murder of two tribal minor girls. I visited the family on 13.6.21 and directed @lrbishnoiassam to form SIT and take the case to it’s logical conclusion,” stated Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a tweet.


• About the case

On June 11 of last year, two minor girls from the same family were discovered hanging from a tree in Kokrajhar district.

The incident occurred in a small forest in Abhayakuti village, where the two minor girls’ bodies were discovered late on June 11 evening.

Assam Police later confirmed that the girls had been raped and murdered.

Seven people were arrested, all of whom allegedly confessed to the crime.

Three of them were allegedly directly involved in the rape and murder, while the other four allegedly destroyed evidence and misled police during the investigation.
