Assam Government plans to create a “satellite township” or satellite city on a 1000-acre plot close to Guwahati. The state housing and urban affairs minister, Ashok Singhal issued a press release with this information.

The Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has been tasked by the government with examining the viability of the proposed city. According to the statement, the GMDA has appointed M/s Surbana Jurong Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd., a government of Singapore agency, as a consultant for the creation of master plans and development plans for the aforementioned satellite city.

The press release stated, “The consultative body has already presented a presentation containing their initial suggestions before Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Ashok Singhal and is expected to make their final presentation soon.”

The state government revealed plans to build the “Amrit-Guwahati Integrated Global City (AMRIT-GIG City)” in Guwahati in the state budget for 2022–2023. According to a press release, the proposed Amrit-Guwahati city would be carefully built over a 1000-acre area and will have cutting-edge residential and social infrastructure as well as top-notch infrastructure to help the next generation adapt to the changing times.
