A shopkeeper in Guwahati’s Borbari area allegedly stabbed and injured a youth after the two got into an argument over a packet of ‘Gutka.’

According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday night at New Market in the Borbari area.

Mainul Ali, the accused, is said to have injured Manoj Rongpi with a sharp object.

Manoj Rongpi filed an FIR in the Dispur Police Station reporting the incident. Meanwhile, according to reports, Ali has been on the run since the incident.

According to locals, Ali used to sell illegal liquor in his shop and was also involved in other illegal activities.

Manoj Rongpi while speaking to the media told, “I went to buy gutka from a nearby shop. The shopkeeper was not responding, so I tore a packet myself. Seeing that, he got angry and started misbehaving with me as he was drunk. He then hit me on my nose and pulled me inside his shop to beat me up.”

He added, “When I hit him back, he called 5-6 people from the locality to help him. They stabbed me in my hand with a sharp object.”
