An 80-year-old differently-abled Naga woman was allegedly “strip-searched” by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at Guwahati airport on Thursday.

When the elderly woman and her grandchild were flying to Delhi, the event occurred during security check-in at Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport.

Mhalo Kikon, who is wheelchair-bound and had hip replacement surgery last year, was scheduled to go from Guwahati to Delhi on a GoAir flight.

Even when Kikon repeatedly stated that she had the hip implant, a CISF woman official allegedly forced her to remove all of her clothes, including her underwear and diaper.

In a series of tweets, Mhalo Kikon’s daughter Dolly Kikon, a prominent anthropologist from Nagaland, said that the CISF forced her disabled mother to strip at Guwahati airport.

She tweeted, “It is disgusting! My 80-year-old disabled mother was forced to pull down her undergarment and get naked. Why? Why?”

The Guwahati International Airport authorities have apologised to Dolly Kikon after the social media outrage.
