The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) has announced that the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2024 will be held from the first week of February 2024. The exam will also see the introduction of personalized OMR sheets for answering objective-type questions (50% of total marks).

The OMR sheets will be in the name of a particular candidate and will be used for answering objective-type questions in core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. The remaining 50% of the questions will be answered in separate answer scripts.

SEBA has also issued directions to each school regarding the eligibility criteria of the students for appearing in the HSLC examination 2024. The students who are eligible to appear in the exam are:

• Those who appeared in Unit Test-1 (except those who were unsuccessful in HSLC Examination 2023) and are regularly attending classes and who will appear in subsequent examinations like Unit Test-II, Half Yearly Examination and Pre-Board Examination.
• The unsuccessful candidates of HSLC examination 2023 who are re-admitted in Class 10 but could not appear in Unit Test-1, have to attend classes regularly and also to appear in Half Yearly Examination, Unit Test-II and Pre-Board Examination.

The board has also informed that the procedure of handling of sealed box/carton of confidential material will remain unchanged as done in rescheduled Examination of HSLC Examination 2023 and HSLC (Compartmental) Examination 2023.

The announcement of the HSLC Examination 2024 schedule comes at a time when the state is gearing up for the upcoming Assembly elections. The exam is expected to be a major test for the newly elected government.
