Three Meghalaya-based men were detained and Indian fake currency notes worth Rs 15 lakhs were seized in Guwahati’s Khanapara by the crime branch along with Basistha Police.
The individuals who were detained were identified as Champion Sangma, Gohan Sangma, Serian Momin of Meghalaya’s Garo Hills.
During a search operation, the crime branch investigators found a bag carrying Rs 10,000 in authentic currency notes and the rest in counterfeit currency notes wrapped in white papers.
While interrogating the three, the crime branch learned about an inter-state counterfeit currency racket operating in the northeast.
During the operation, one Bolero car was also seized, informed the crime branch.
