Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a one-day visit to Guwahati on April 14, where he inaugurated Northeast India’s first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The newly built campus of AIIMS Guwahati was inspected by the Prime Minister during the inauguration ceremony. He also laid the foundation stone of the Assam Advanced Health Care Innovation Institute (AAHII) and launched the ‘Aapke Dwar Ayushman’ campaign, which involved distributing Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) cards to eligible beneficiaries.

This Hospital’s foundation stone was laid by the Prime Minister in May 2017, and it has been built at a cost of over ₹1120 crores. AIIMS Guwahati is a state-of-the-art hospital that can accommodate 750 beds, including 30 AYUSH beds, and has an annual intake capacity of 100 MBBS students per year.

Additionally, the Prime Minister also inaugurated three medical colleges, namely Nalbari Medical College, Nagaon Medical College, and Kokrajhar Medical College, which have been built at a cost of approximately ₹615 crore, ₹600 crore, and ₹535 crore, respectively. Each medical college is equipped with a 500-bedded teaching hospital with OPD/IPD services, emergency services, ICU facilities, OT, diagnostic facilities, and more. Each Medical College will have an annual intake capacity of 100 MBBS students.
