Guwahati residents will now be required to register their pets with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).
Under the GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) act of 1969, all pet owners must complete the registration of their pets with the GMC.
Pet owners in the city can now register their pets with the corporation online.
Pet registration with GMC requires ID proof of the pet’s owner, which includes an Adhar Card, PAN card, Voter ID, and a valid passport.
The owner’s address proof is required, which may include an electricity bill, a driver’s licence, a voter ID card, and an Adhar card.
The owner must also submit a picture of his or her pet, as well as an up-to-date vaccination card certified by any registered Veterinary.
Dr. Pradip Medhi, GMC’s veterinary officer, stated that while the current GMC act only mentions dog registration, all animals must be registered with the corporation.
