Jonbeel Mela, famous for the barter system, has been cancelled this year, due to the COVID-19 uprise in Assam.
Known for its ancient form of trading, the Barter system, Jonbeel Mela is an annual three-day event held at Jagiroad in the Morigaon district of Assam.
Indigenous to the Tiwa community, Jonbeel Mela, has been cancelled this year due to the upturn of COVID-19 cases in the state.
With the agreement of all people involved, the Mela committee members have called for the cancellation of the Jonbeel Mela.
However, keeping the tradition in mind, only 100-150 people will be allowed to participate in the barter system, without any large crowd of shoppers and visitors.
