Despite the heavy rainfall and floods, Guwahati’s preparations for the much-anticipated Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Devalaya are still in full swing. The Ambubachi Mela will take place from June 22 to June 26 this year.

Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah met with officials from the Railways, the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority, and other departments on Thursday to talk about the Mela’s preparations.

Taking to Twitter, the tourism minister informed that no VIP or VVIP credentials would be offered this time.

“As per the wish of Hon’ble CM Dr @ himantabiswa sir, no special preference will be given to VIPs. Special car passes will also not be provided this time. We have also decided not to hold inauguration ceremony or cultural programmes as precaution against #COVID19,” tweeted minister Baruah.
