Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has gave a warning to police officers who use battalion personnel for personal works that they will be required to pay their salaries or the government will no longer pay them.
The chief minister said, “There are allegations that some police officers employ personnel from battalion for personal work at home. I have asked the commandant of battalion and Superintendent of police to give a certificate if there are such personnel. If yes then the police officer will have to pay the salary and government will not pay. I have sought the certificate within 10 days.”
The Assam cabinet had previously decided to deploy a personal security officer (PSO) based on a core security review and constitutional post. Assam had spent Rs 400 crore on the salaries and allowances of the PSOs prior to the decision.
