As the flood situation in Assam worsens, it has attracted the attention of the world media, with a photograph from the state on the front page of The New York Times.

Atul Loke snapped the heartbreaking image of a framer collapsing in paddy fields damaged by Assam floods.

The caption of the image read, “Hifjur Rehman, 40, a third-generation farmer, collapsed in a paddy field destroyed by floods in the Indian state of Assam. Mr. Rehman had been worried about how to repay a loan to the bank.”

The photo was featured alongside a story titled ‘On Climate Change’s Front Lines, Hard Lives Grow Even Harder.’

Assam floods and landslides have claimed 62 lives this year, according to the latest data, and almost 31 lakh people have been affected across the state.
