The project for a Rs 996.75 Crore rail-cum-road bridge over the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati, close to the already-existing Saraighat bridge, has been approved by the Central government.

At Saraighat, it will be the third bridge. A road bridge and a rail-cum-road bridge are the other two bridges of Saraighat that are now in use.

Informing about the same, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, tweeted, “The project for Rail-cum-Road Bridge across Brahmaputra river near the existing Saraighat bridge at Guwahati has been approved at the cost of Rs. 996.75 Cr which will be shared by NHAI & Ministry of Railways. Also cost of approaches/viaducts: Rs. 322 Cr. will be entirely built by NHAI.”

“The bridge would connect north bank of Assam to south bank i. e. Guwahati across Brahmaputra river. Once the bridge is completed, it would provide seamless & strategic connectivity across river with heavy traffic at present of more than 75000 PCUs,” added Gadkari.
