In a significant development, Guwahati police arrested a member of the Islamic terrorist organisation Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) in Guwahati on Friday.
According to reports, Dispur Police apprehended the cadre in cooperation with the Crime Branch.
The arrested individual was identified as Enamul Haque, who worked as the manager of a guest house in Dispur.
According to the reports, various objectionable documents were recovered after search operations were conducted at Haque’s residence.
According to police, Islamic extremist groups have been trying to make inroads into Assam for a long time. Previously, a few members of Ansar al Islam, also known as the Bangladesh branch of Al Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), were apprehended for purported jihadi activities in Assam.
