Today, in a grand celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi, the Dr. BR Ambedkar Youth Club in Guwahati’s Fatasil area has unveiled a magnificent 30-foot statue of Lord Ganesha. This longstanding tradition, now in its 37th year, has drawn both devoted worshipers and the curious public to witness this awe-inspiring spectacle. The festivities are at their peak as the colossal idol was revealed on September 18, kickstarting the nine-day revelry.

Ganesh Chaturthi, also referred to as Vinayak Chaturthi or Ganeshotsav, is a significant festival that commemorates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the beloved son of Shiva and Parvati. This joyous occasion sees the installation of clay idols of Ganesha, both in households and elaborate public pandals.

The ten-day celebration culminates with a vibrant public procession filled with music and chants, culminating in the immersion of the idol in a nearby water body, a sacred ritual known as visarjan, taking place on Anant Chaturdashi. Ganesh Chaturthi honors Ganesha as the ‘God of New Beginnings,’ the ‘Remover of Obstacles,’ and the patron of wisdom and intelligence.

This year, Ganesh Chaturthi commences on September 19 and extends its festivities for ten days until September 29.
