The Assam government declared a reward of ₹50 lakh for Lovlina Borgohain on Wednesday.
The declaration was made by the state’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, in the Assam Assembly.
The announcement came after Borgohain secured her first World Championships gold medal on March 26, adding to her already impressive achievements as a bronze medalist.
In the 75kg final of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships held in New Delhi, the athlete defeated Australian competitor Caitlin Parker, a two-time Commonwealth Games medalist, with a split 5-2 verdict. Borgohain’s success contributed to India’s total medal count of four golds in the World Boxing Championships 2023.
