The International Boxing Association (IBA) Athletes Committee has elected Assam Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain as its chairperson.
Lovlina Borgohain, the bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, received the most votes in the election held at the 2022 Women’s World Championships, according to the IBA.
With the election of Lovlina Borgohain as chairperson of the IBA Athletes Committee, she is now a voting member of the IBA Athletes Committee Board of Directors.
On the other side, another Assam boxer, Shiva Thapa, has been elected to the IBA Athletes Committee as a member.
The Assamese boxing duo has embraced their positions.
Lovlina Borgohain, after being elected chairperson of the IBA Athletes Committee, said, “I feel honoured to have been elected as the chair of IBA’s Athlete’s Committee, I expected to become a member, but never thought that I will also become the chair of the committee, this will help me promote Indian boxing and especially women boxing to other boxers of the world.”
