‘Local Utpaat’ is the next Assamese film to dominate the box office after ‘Mission China,’ ‘Kanchanjangha,’ and ‘Ratnakar.’

The action-comedy film, directed by Kenny Basumatary, has grossed more in its first week than both ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’ and ‘Dr Strange.’

Mitali Films distributor Sukanta Paul confirmed this news. He said, “100% it has done the best sales out of all three films. Public demand was so high that shows were increased at almost all cinema halls.”

In most theatres, ‘Local Utpaat’ is now in its second week. On bookmyshow.com, the film has received a 97 percent public rating. Several people have stated that they have seen it multiple times. Audiences have also stated that they have finally had the opportunity to laugh out loud for two hours straight after two years.

“I am truly grateful to the people of Assam for making our film a hit. We were confident it would do well, but the public response has been more than double our expectations,” said Director Kenny Basumatary on the success of the film.

The film’s first week box office earnings are estimated to be around Rs 40 lakh.

It appears that Assamese cinema’s good days are here to stay. Aamis director Bhaskar Hazarika’s second film, ‘Emuthi Puthi,’ is also making noises. On June 17, the family drama-comedy will be released.
