Apart from colours and sweets, the most popular item purchased during Holi celebrations in Guwahati was liquor.
The sale of liquor increased dramatically in the Kamrup Metropolitan (M) area during the two-day Holi celebration.
According to the Assam Excise Department, liquor worth over Rs 4 crore 50 lakh was sold in Guwahati and its nearby areas in just two days.
The only respite came in the form of the reduction in the frequency of vehicle accidents on Holi days, because of Assam Police’s strict scrutiny.
