As Assam moves forward with plans to welcome Maa Durga in a much larger manner than the previous year because of COVID-19 restrictions, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urges the populace to reject the culture of donations.
The Chief Minister wrote on Twitter, “Let’s Shun Culture of Donations! My request to all: let’s put a full stop to the chanda culture in Assam this Puja festivities. Let’s stop harassing business owners, big or small, by collecting money in name of Puja donations. Let’s get rid of donation culture, once & for all.”
It should be noted that in the past, there were several complaints and concerns from the state’s business community regarding student organisations, clubs, and local associations demanding money in order to hold puja or Bihu festivities.
