Because of Covid-19 protocols in place, the body of Assamese actor Kishor Das, who died today at the age of 30 after battling cancer, will not be carried back to Assam.

Das’ last rituals will be held in Chennai because his remains could not be flown into Guwahati. The rituals will take place by this evening.

He had been receiving treatment in Guwahati for some time before being sent to Chennai in March for more advanced treatment. According to reports, he also had COVID-19 and died as a result of its effects.

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had talked with the Tamil Nadu government to arrange for the actor’s body to be sent home. However, due to the limits imposed in view of Covid-19, it was not possible, informed Palashbari legislator Hemanga Thakuria.

Kishor Das was a Guwahati native of the Mirza area, who has appeared in over 300 music videos, one of which, “Turut Turut,” became Assam’s number one most viewed video.

Kishor Das was well-known for his performances in TV dramas such as “Bidhata and Bandhun,” as well as short films.

He also received the “Candid Young Achievement Award” in 2019 and the Asianet Icon Award for “Most Popular Actor 2020-2021.”

Kishor Das has a large following on social media. Fans and admirers adored him for the roles he played onscreen.
