The Assam government issued an official directive instructing government officials to avoid wearing jeans or T-shirts while on official duty. During VVIP visits and government gatherings, the directive instructed government officials to maintain a nice, clean, and formal look.

Jishnu Barua, Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, issued an office order on May 7 that read, “It is observed that some of the officials engaged in official duty during VVIP visits and Government functions, attend duties dressed in casuals like T-shin, jeans etc, which is unbecoming of a public servant. In order to maintain the high standard of conduct. dignity and decorum of the events, the officers/ employees/ personnel engaged in official duties during the visits of VVIPs, Government functions etc., are required to maintain a neat, clean and formal appearance that is appropriate for the event.”

The government directive added, “All the officers/ officials/ employees/ personnel engaged in official duties during any Government function/ event and visit of VVIPs to the state, should be in appropriate, formal, modest clean and decent clothes. The police personnel, medical and paramedical staff engaged in official duties, during such events should strictly don the uniform prescribed for them.”

“Any violation in this regard would be viewed seriously and suitable action would be taken against the erring official by the concerned authorities,” the Chief Secretary further stated in the order.
