The abandoned Chandrapur Thermal Power Station (CTPS) on the outskirts of Guwahati will become a Space Research Centre of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) as part of the Network for Space Object Tracking and Analysis (NETRA).
According to a senior government official, ISRO requires 100 acres of land to establish the centre. The Assam government has already identified seven sites for it, including a plot in Amingaon, and the government has finally chosen CTPS for NETRA, according to the official.
He added that radar and an optical telescope facility would be key components of this control centre and that ISRO would make the final decision on whether the plot is suitable for space and scientific infrastructure.
