Guwahati’s iconic Apsara Cinema Hall in Paltanbazar is being transformed into a ‘Marriage Hall’ because the Cinema Hall’s owner faced significant losses throughout the pandemic.
The issue was brought to the attention of Assam government, but the government was deemed shorthanded on providing needed assistance to the cinema halls of Assam.
Earlier this year, Guwahati’s iconic Vandana Cinema Hall in Noonmati also shut down and a multi-storied shopping mall was built in that location.
“End of an era. Apsara Cinema is now history. Guwahati’s iconic Apsara Cinema Hall transformed into a ‘Marriage Hall’,” news editor and anchor of News Live, Nandan Pratim Sharma Bordoloi expressing his gratitude towards Apsara Cinema Hall tweeted.
Apsara Cinema Hall located in Paltanbazar Guwahati was one of the state’s oldest Cinema Hall of Assam.
