According to the most recent assessment on Guwahati’s air quality index, which was published on December 14, the statistics present a concerning sign as the city’s air quality has deteriorated to the point of being classified as “poor.”

“Worrying air quality data from Ghy demystifies the common notion of clear blue skies in the NER. There is an urgent need to assess local sources & targeted interventions. A reminder that air pollution is the 2nd leading risk factor for premature deaths after malnutrition,” tweeted Senior Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi in response to the news.

As indicated by the Index Value of 230 and the elevated levels of PM 2.5, Guwahati has experienced a substantial decline in air quality. Citizens have been warned of the increasing situation by weather applications on their mobile phones, which identify the city’s AQI as “unhealthy.”

Guwahati has the most polluted air in northeastern India, according to a study by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), a New Delhi-based think tank.
