Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal told the State Assembly today that tap water would be available in Guwahati beginning in July of this year. To begin with, approximately 5,000 households would be provided with potable drinking water.

In response to a question from Opposition Leader Debabrata Saikia, Singhal stated that the process of providing water connections would begin in May, after which applications from consumers interested in using the service would be sought.

Singhal stated that the water supply projects would be phased to cover the entire length and breadth of the capital city.

He stated that four different water supply projects are currently underway to meet the needs of Guwahatians, and that efforts are being made to complete the projects as soon as possible.
