Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ordered that construction of a second ropeway in Guwahati begin as soon as possible.

The projected second ropeway will connect Guwahati’s Kamakhya Railway Station to the Kamakhya Temple.

On February 13, during a meeting with officials from the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway and other officials, CM Sarma asked that the Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration give the Railways with the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) to proceed with the project.

Sabyasachi De, NF Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, informed the reporters that the project is still in its early stages.

He said, “We are still in the process of land acquisition as the pylons will be placed on State Government land. Further steps regarding the project can be done only after the NOC is received.”

There were also discussions about adding a second passenger entry gate to the Guwahati Railway Station to alleviate the crowding on Platform 1.
