In the Chandmari area of Guwahati, another large park will be built soon. The proposed park will be similar to the Shraddhanjali Kanan park, which is now located near the Assam Zoo.

On Tuesday, February 1, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the government is planning to build a park on the Maniram Dewan Road, near the All India Radio Campus.

The park will be built on around 20 bighas of land where the Irrigation and Flood Control Departments’ offices are currently located.

“We are constructing spaces for both the departments within the Assam Secretariat. Once completed, the offices will be shifted and the present buildings at Chandmari will be demolished by next year,” said the chief minister.

He further said that Guwahati already has 42 parks for its citizens, and that the new park will contribute to the city’s aesthetics.

In addition, all police quarters next to the old DC Bungalow at Panbazar will be renovated and opened to the public as part of the Brahmaputra Riverfront beautification project.

“The residents of the quarters have already been moved, and renovation work will be started in a day or two,” the chief minister informed.
