Guwahati saw record-breaking alcohol sales as people celebrated Vishwakarma Puja on Saturday.
In a single day, Guwahati reportedly sold 6.2 crores of alcoholic beverages. Also, sales of alcohol brought in approximately Rs 2.25 crores in excise taxes.
It should be recalled that the Assam government increased the excise tax in December of last year to make up for the VAT cut on gasoline and diesel. The price of liquor increased by 15% as a result of the excise duty rise.
