In view of the Assam Police’s ‘Zero-Accident’ initiative, Guwahati Police has recorded a massive 4 crore fines related to Drunk driving cases in the month of December only, revealed Harmeet Singh, Guwahati Police Commissioner, in an interview with CNN News18 on Thursday.

The number of fines has increased significantly in December. In the past few months of August, September, October, and November, the monthly average of fines collected was Rs 2.5 crores for cases including mainly drunk driving, not wearing a helmet, and parking offenses.

The police commissioner also said that over 22,000 violators have been caught for not wearing helmets in the last 20 days.

Earlier, Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary flagged off 9 highly advanced Traffic Interceptor Vehicles (TIV)s at Assam Administrative Staff College, as part of the Assam government’s initiative to achieve the goal of ‘Zero Accident’ on the last day of the year and making the state accident-free.
