New directives have been issued by the Kamrup (Metro) district administration for the joyous Durga Puja celebrations in Guwahati.

At a meeting on Monday between the district administration and the Guwahati Police, the new directions were disclosed.

Prior to planning a Puja, each committee is required to obtain permission from the local police, as per the directives.

It has been requested of the Puja committees that no pandals be erected on the streets. All Puja pandals must have CCTVs installed as a mandatory standard. There must be volunteers for each Puja committee.

The committees have also been asked not to use excessive amounts of lightning within the pandals. The area around the pandals needs to be adequately lit.

According to the directives, the banner must have the names and phone numbers of the President and Secretary of the Puja committees.

The directive also stated that the materials used to create the Durga idols must be 100 percent pollution-free.

As per the directives, all cultural events must wrap up before 9:00 p.m. The committees were also advised not to use loud music.
