In a major development for the roadways in Northeast India, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has moved to upgrade the existing four-lane National Highway to a six-lane one in Guwahati.

The estimated project cost is Rs 356.02 crore. It will also have four flyovers besides a ‘vehicular underpass’. This ambitious key roadway project is slated to streamline the perennial traffic logjam encountered along the Jalukbari Chariali area to Bashishta Chariali.

The mission is expected to be completed in 30 months. The NHAI is looking forward to the commencement of this project in the earlier part of 2022.

After completion of this project, it will provide a major boost to the roadway connectivity of the strategic NER (North Eastern Region).
