The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has taken action against businesses operating without valid trade licenses, resulting in the closure of several shops in Guwahati, including some located inside the City Center mall.

According to GMC collector Tulashi Ranjan Kalita, many shops in the city are not renewing or applying for trade licenses. As a result, all such shops will be closed, fined, and only allowed to operate after obtaining proper trade licenses.

The Hidesign, Under Armour, and Adidas showrooms in City Center were among those shut down, with Adidas not renewing their license for the last two years. Hidesign had not obtained a trade license for the last 6 months, and Under Armour had been operating without one for the past year.

The GMC sealed a Peter England showroom at GS Road near Anil Plaza on Friday, but it reopened after paying a penalty of ₹50,000 and obtaining a trade license the next day. The GMC plans to continue its crackdown on unlicensed businesses in the coming days. Many shops in Lokhra and other areas have also been sealed.
