CCTV cameras will be required to be installed in all Guwahati shops with more than five employees. This will soon be mandatory.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made this announcement while taking part in the Bhumi Pujan of the Rs 1,777 Crore Kamrup Metro Infra Project.

The chief minister said, “Crime has increased in Guwahati in recent days. However, the Guwahati Police have become strict against crimes. We are going to take an important initiative. All the commercial shopping points having more than five employees must put CCTV cameras. We are going to pass a bill in the Legislative Assembly soon.”

The bill would be passed in April, the Chief Minister added.

The Chief Minister further noted that the CCTV cameras ought to face the roadways and have storage that can hold data for more than three months. Furthermore, the CCTV cameras must have government approval. Any privately mounted CCTV camera is not permitted.

The Chief Minister anticipates installing about 5 lakh CCTV cameras in Guwahati by the end of the year.
