In a historic development, President Droupadi Murmu has made a momentous decision to appoint Justice Ujjal Bhuyan from Assam as one of the esteemed judges of the Supreme Court of India.
The selection process involved careful deliberation and consultations with Chief Justice of India, Justice D.Y Chandrachud.
Prior to this prestigious appointment, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan served as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, showcasing his exceptional legal acumen and experience.
The esteemed collegium, responsible for recommending judicial appointments, praised Justice Bhuyan for his extensive expertise in various areas of law, particularly his specialized knowledge in taxation law during his tenure as a high court judge.
The collegium stated, “Justice Bhuyan’s judgments have covered a wide range of legal issues, demonstrating his commitment to upholding justice. His reputation for integrity and competence precedes him.”
Furthermore, the Supreme Court Collegium recently took a commendable step by proposing the names of Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice S Venkatanarayana Bhatti for elevation to the Supreme Court, highlighting their exceptional legal careers and contributions to the judiciary.
