The Director General of Police (DGP) for Assam, GP Singh, reiterates the imperative nature of holding those who call for bandhs accountable in the state. Citing a social media post on platform ‘X’ from June 2022 and a directive from the Gauhati High Court in WP(C) 7570/2013 dated March 19, 2019, Singh underscores the responsibility of individuals initiating bandhs.

Singh emphasizes that, based on Para 35(9) of the High Court order, considering the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Assam at ₹5,65,401 crore, the potential loss from a single day’s bandh is estimated at ₹1643 crore. This sum is deemed recoverable from those who incite and call for such disruptions, according to the mentioned court order.

In a post on ‘X,’ DGP GP Singh reiterates, “Reiterating my post of June 2022 about Bandh Calls and responsibility/accountability of those who call for Bandh as directed by Hon’ble Gauhati High Court in WP(C) 7570/2013
Date : 19.03.2019
Needless to say that with the GSDP of Assam pegged at INR 5,65,401 Crore, loss from a day’s Bandh would be approximately INR 1643 Crores recoverable from those who call for such a Bandh in accordance with Para 35(9) of the aforementioned order of the Hon’ble Gauhati High Court order.”
