The Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has installed an electric vehicle charging station in the parking lot of the Mahabahu Brahmaputra River Heritage Center in Guwahati.
The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) approved 89 EVCS (Electric Vehicle Charging Stations) for three northeastern states as part of a major endeavour to promote the EV environment and reduce pollution.
In Assam, 20 of the 89 electric vehicle charging stations have been installed, with 10 each in the two major cities, Guwahati and Jorhat.
This project is part of the Indian government’s FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicle) scheme, which aims to minimise the usage of diesel and petrol-powered vehicles in the country.
It should be noted that, in accordance with Ministry of Power guidelines, one electric vehicle charging station will be located every 25 kilometres on both sides of the highway.
