The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) in collaboration with the Lions Club of Guwahati has created a space for artists to showcase their arts, below the six-mile flyover in Guwahati.

The cultural space will be inaugurated on the occasion of Magh Bihu, on Friday, January 14.

To provide a platform to the artists, who are struggling financially amid the pandemic, GMC and the Guwahati Lions Club have created a space where artists can showcase their art.

“Artists are amongst the most badly affected due to the pandemic, losing their means of livelihood, mostly musicians and visual artists. They are finding it hard to survive. So the GMC is creating two corners for them where live performances will be held every weekend – Saturday and Sunday, throughout the year,” GMC Commissioner Devashish Sharma said while speaking to G Plus.

The GMC Commissioner stated that every artist who performs will be given Rs 4,000 per performance. He said, “We are aiming to provide them with some source of earning apart from promoting our folk culture.”
