In a recent development, Assam’s traditional dance form, Bihu, was featured in a performance that has sparked controversy due to its distortion. The occasion was the welcoming of the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, who has arrived in New Delhi in preparation for the upcoming G-20 summit.

During the event, Bihu was showcased on a side stage, representing the rich cultural heritage of Assam as a part of India’s diverse traditions. However, dismayingly, the dancers failed to accurately represent the authentic essence of Bihu and instead presented a distorted rendition.

This incident is not an isolated one, as New Delhi has witnessed a previous instance of misrepresentation of Bihu. In the past, an organization called ‘Bihu Kristi Parishad’ displayed a distorted portrayal of Bihu when extending a welcome to the President of the Maldives during their visit to India.

Despite the controversy surrounding the cultural performance, the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, is set to play a pivotal role in the upcoming G-20 meeting in New Delhi. Additionally, he is scheduled to engage in bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Modi. The reception at the airport was led by Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, as India gears up for this significant international gathering.
