The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in Guwahati conducted a bike rally on Wednesday, which drew a large number of people and generated criticism on social media since some of them did not wear helmets.
It’s worth noting that in Guwahati, pillion riders on two-wheelers are mandated to wear helmets by law. Since December 1, 2021, the regulation has been in effect.
Many riders in the rally did not wear helmets, and well-known politicians such as Jayanta Malla Baruah, Siddhartha Bhattacharya, and Himangshu Baishya were also seen riding without one.
Netizens demand fines for these politicians for violating the Motor Vehicle Act by riding without a helmet, and they wonder if the double helmet law just applies to regular people and whether politicians are immune from the law.
