The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), which is housed under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has recognised Assam as a “Leader” in Category A states (population over 1 crore) for creating a strong startup ecosystem.

Pranjal Konwar, the chief operating officer of Assam Startup, noted that this represents a significant improvement over its prior classification as an ‘Emerging Startup Ecosystem.’

According to him, the state has earned praise from the DPIIT for helping to build the cutting-edge incubator “Assam Startup the Nest,” for offering financial assistance and incentives to women entrepreneurs, and for holding several outreach events with important ecosystem players.

On Monday in New Delhi, Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal announced the states’ startup rankings for 2021.

Participating states, which were divided into 24 states and 7 Union territories (UTs), were ranked in the exercise’s five categories of best performers, top performers, leaders, aspiring leaders, and emerging startup ecosystems.

26 action points, including funding, mentoring, institutional support, and empowering the enablers, are used to rate each state in the study.
