Assam Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary stated that All Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA) cannot raise bus fares. Following a meeting with the association on Friday, the minister revealed this.
According to reports, the minister warned the association that raising the fee would be impossible. If the association raises the bus fare, their licences will be revoked.
AAMTA had previously requested a 70% increase in both city and inter-district bus fares in a memorandum to the government.
Meanwhile, AAMTA General Secretary Prabin Das stated that the government has failed to consider the welfare of transport employees while the prices of every other commodity related to their services have skyrocketed.
