Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has presented Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with her country’s famous ‘Amrapali’ mangoes.

According to reports, on Friday night, the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner in Guwahati, Shah Md Tanvir Monsur, presented the mangoes to the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Samir Sinha.

The Bangladesh prime minister has delivered 200 kilos of mangoes to Assam as a gift for prominent personalities of the state.

According to Monsur, the two countries currently have the “best of best relationship” owing to the charismatic leadership of both Prime Ministers Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi. “The Assam Chief Minister has also played a special role in this endeavour,” he said.

He added that these are of the highest quality, and the Prime Minister want to share them with neighbouring countries.

“She has, therefore, sent the finest quality of mangoes for the dignitaries of Assam. This gift from Bangladesh will make the sweet relationship between the countries sweeter,” added Monsur.

Accepting the gift, Sinha expressed his gratitude to Sheikh Hasina on behalf of the Chief Minister and the people of Assam.

Earlier this month, Hasina delivered mango baskets to the Indian president and prime minister, also. Bangladesh has been participating in what foreign policy experts call ‘Mango-Hilsa diplomacy,’ or wooing neighbours with gifts that help promote Bangladesh.
