The Iron Lady of Assam, IPS officer Sanjukta Parashar has been awarded the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Training, on Thursday.

Sanjukta Parashar, the IPS officer from Assam, was honoured with the prestigious award on National Investigation Agency (NIA) Day 2022.

The award ceremony was held in the national capital of Delhi on the 13th NIA Day celebrations, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

It’s worth noting that Parashar was the only woman among the 22 winners.

Sanjukta Parashar is recognised as the Iron Lady of Assam throughout the northeast and the country. She made history by becoming the first woman in the state to be appointed as an IPS Officer.

Parashar, an IPS officer from the 2006 batch, was born in Assam and completed her post-graduate studies at JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University) in Delhi before pursuing her Ph.D. and MPhil at the University of Indonesia.

The IPC officer has made notable accomplishments in her career and has been recognised for her commitment to public service.

Parashar joined the Meghalaya-Assam Cadre after achieving 85th place in the AICSE (All India Civil Services Examination). She was assigned as an Assistant Commander in Assam’s Makum in 2008, and then as an SP in Assam’s Sonitpur, where she supervised a team of CRPF jawans.
